K Schnarre 1954

K (his first name really is K without a period) earned 3 varsity letters each in football and track. He was an excellent blocker and hard nosed tackler who contributed greatly to 2 championship teams in his 4 years of football at Stivers. The Tiger freshman football team won the City Championship in 1950 and the 1952 Tigers were City Public League champs losing only to Chaminade 20-13. K suffered a broken ankle in the premier opener of his senior year. He recovered and played at a high level to earn 2nd Team All-City as a tackle.

K was truly a track star participating in the Shot Put and Discus in his 4 years at Stivers. Most notable was breaking the Shot Put record held by Bill Hosket, Sr. (1930) for 25 years. K’s 49 foot shot broke the record by almost 3 feet. K placed 2nd in the City Freshman Meet, Shot and Discus, and placed in the top 3 as a junior and senior.

K attended the University of Louisville on a football scholarship and he had the opportunity to play with NFL greats, Johnny Unitas and Leonard Lyles. K also lettered in track at U of L in his freshman year. K returned to Dayton after his freshman year and was a starting defensive tackle on the undefeated Dayton Triangles.

K met his wife Bonnie while attending Louisville and they have been married almost 55 years. They have 4 wonderful sons; J, Gary, Shawn and Chris and 3 beautiful daughters; Kim, Holly and Amy. They also have 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. All live in Evansville except Amy who lives with family in Champaign Illinois.

K spent his career in marketing as a district manager with the Jewel Tea Company. He is retired and enjoying life and all of his grandchildren.
