Marvin Farrier was an outstanding athlete who excelled in football and basketball at Stivers High School. Marv was an excellent offensive and defensive end and the captain of the 1927 football team. He earned All-City honors after his senior season.
Marvin had an outstanding high school career in basketball at Stivers. He was a starting guard on the 1 928 State Championship team and was selected All-City and All-State along with teammates Bill Hosket and Bobby Colburn. Marv received an athletic scholarship to Ohio State where he played football and basketball for two years. He withdrew from college and played professional football for the Dayton Triangles.
Farrier became a Civil Engineer following his pro football career and established a contracting company. He served in the United States Army from 1940 to 1945 as a combat engineer and was discharged a Captain. After serving his country during WWII, Marvin continued to serve the Dayton community as a school board member and with the Shrine Club. He was elected to the Dayton School Board in 1955 and continued this service until 1970. Marvin was very active in the Shrine Club and worked on many community service projects. During this period of time, he became a very active recruiter of Ohio State athletes and was instrumental in Jerry Lucas attending Ohio State.
Marvin married his Stivers High School sweetheart, Loretta Mayer, and together they had 2 children, Marietta, 1957 Stivers graduate, and Michael who is deceased. He and Loretta were married 48 years. Marvin died in 1980.
