John and Jim Lord were twin brothers who transferred to Stivers for their senior year and made an immediate impact on the Tigers football team. Both had been outstanding athletes at Mount Vernon High School having been named to their All-Conference team as juniors. They came to Stivers because their dad was transferred to Dayton as an Assistant Pastor at the Brown St. Methodist Church. Coach Jim Hanby and several football players met with the Lord brothers upon their arrival which made a smooth transition to Stivers and Tiger football.
Both John and Jim were starters on the 1954 Stivers City Champion ship team and played key roles in the teams success. John was an All City guard and the leading vote getter on the All City Team. He scored a touchdown as an end in the City All Star game. Jim played halfback for the Tigers, was named All City as a running back and also scored a touchdown in the City All Star game. Jim also competed on the Stivers track team and held the 100 yard dash record in the Dayton district until the 1970’s.
John and Jim Lord attended Ohio State University and both played football under Woody Hayes. Both were recruited for OSU by Bill Hosket Sr., and John played on the 1957 National Championshi team.
