An excellent all-around athlete in football, basketball and baseball, Dale earned 7 varsity letters and as a senior he was Co-Captain of the football and basketball teams. In 1954 Stivers ended Chaminade’s 49 straight game winning streak in football against city schools. Keiter scored two touchdowns and was stopped inches short of a third. In a game against Fairview he carried the ball 9 times for an average of 24 yards per carry.
Dale was a starting guard on the basketball team that lost the city championship game in overtime to a much taller Roosevelt team which included Norman Lee (later a Harlem Globetrotter).
In baseball, Dale, a left fielder, was a leading hitter, even against Fairview’s future major leaguer and Wright State coach, Ron Nischwitz.
Dale is a cousin of the late Bernard “Beno” Keiter, former sheriff of Montgomery County and a Stivers and University of Dayton Hall of Famer.
Dale has lived in Florida for many years. He and his now deceased wife Bonnie, were married for forty-five years and have two daughters and one son. His grandson is a highly rated high school football prospect who is being recruited by many top college teams.
