Carlie Cramer was one of the most talented football players to ever wear the orange and black of Stivers. The Tigers only lost one game during his 3 year tenure under coach Floyd Stahl and Carl starred in that loss to Toledo.
Cramer was a quarterback who could do it all. He could run, pass, kick and was a natural born leader. He also was a great defensive back and returned punts and kickoffs.
Stivers claimed State Championships two of Carlie’s three football seasons.
His senior year Carl ran for 183 yards beating Hillsboro 59-0, scored 19 points in a win over Indianapolis Shortridge 32-12, scored 26 points beating Pine Bluff, Ark. 39 – 7, and gained over 100 yards in the first quarter as the Tigers went on to beat Roosevelt 41 – 0 in front of 7000 fans at U.D. stadium. Stivers won the City Champion-ship with a 25-0 win over Steele led by Carl and Bill Hosket, Sr.
Cramer also played basketball for Stivers and was an integral player on the team that went on to win another State Championship in 1929.
Carl went to Ohio State to play football for coach Stahl. He had a sensational sophomore year at quarterback for the Buckeyes. He was named to the All-Big Ten and Associated Press All-American Teams in 1931.
Cramer was a veteran of WWII, serving as an intelligence officer. He married Mildred “Bunny”Collins who had two sons, Pat and Mike Collins from a previous marriage.
