Terry Terrell – 1966

2016-pg-6b-ai-adobe-readerTerry Terrell has been a multi sport player, coach, manager, and leader through out his life and to this day. His success started early at the Dayton Boys Club when in 1960 he won the National Boys Club pocket billiards championship and in 1966 was named “Boy of the Year”.

At Stivers Terry earned seven varsity letters; four in baseball, two in basketball and one in cross country. He was captain of the baseball and basketball teams his senior year, and earned All-City honors by leading all second basemen in batting average. Terry stayed quite active in area sports while earning his B.S. and Master’s Degree from U.D. He was head coach of the Stivers Summer League baseball team from 1967 to 1972, and scouted for Larry Shadowens’ basketball team for this same period. He also officiated high school basketball games for 15 years and in 1980 was named the “Tom O’Donnell” top official. In 1972 Terry was the U.D. ping pong champion. From 1974 to 1976 he was the head gymnastics coach at Colonel White High School .

In 2009 Terry was inducted into the Dayton Amateur Softball Hall of Fame. He played, coached and managed the 7-11 Team in 1976 which was the State of Ohio Class B Runner-up, and was named the State Class B Manager of the Year. Terry played for and managed the National and World Champion C & L Carpet team in 1981.

Terry has been active in boys and girls youth basketball programs for over 20 years. He served as an assistant coach in the Bellbrook and Waynesville school systems and in 2006 was named District 15 Boys Assistant Basketball Coach of the Year. He also coached for the AAU Dayton Lady Hoopsters for 10 years. Those AAU teams won 5 straight Ohio State Championships, 3 National Runner-up titles, and 2 other Final Four appearances.

Terry is a very active member of the Cornerstone Baptist Temple. He has been married to his his wife, Karen, for 28 years and has 4 sons, Chad, Casey (deceased), Cody, Cassidy, and 3 grandchildren.
