Roger Akemon – 1972

2016-pg-8a-ai-adobe-readerRoger participated in three different sports all four years at Stivers. He was also a National Honor Society member. H accumulated ten varsity letters; four in track, three in football and three in basketball. He was honorable mention in football his senior year. He was co-captain of the football team and captain of the basketball team his senior year. He was named the Richard Landis Most Outstanding Player in football in 1971 with co-recipient Tom Gordon. One of the highlights during his senior year was when the Stivers football team beat Dunbar. That was the only loss that year for Dunbar. Roger was honored with the Dayton Daily News Player of the Week for his effort in that game. Sports meant everything for Roger when he was young.

He has been a proud member of the Falcon Club for 37 years, where he continued his sports. The softball and basketball teams were very successful in the Dayton area. He was the 2012 recipient of the Russ Willoughby award.

Roger shares his life with Debbie, his wife of 32 years. They love to travel to tropical places or just take the pontoon to the lake. He is the proud father of a son and a daughter, Jeff and Kim, who are both graduates of Beavercreek HS. He enjoys spoiling his two grandsons, Owen and Lucas. He has been a toolmaker for the past 40 years.
