Henry Favorite – 1966

Henry was another outstanding Stivers athlete of the ‘60’s, coached by Joe Sullivan and Dick Landis. For track and field coach Landis, Henry competed in the 100 Yard Dash, 880 Relay,and Pole Vault events. Gymnastics coach Sullivan selected Henry to compete in the “All-Around” Oylmpic events: Floor Exercise, Vaulting, Horizontal “High” Bar, Parallel Bars, Pommel Horse, and Rings. His senior year, Henry placed 3rd in the City of Dayton on the Pommel Horse and 5th in the State of Ohio”All-Around”. He earned 8 varsity letters, 4 for gymnastics and 4 for track. Henry also participated in parades, Gymkhana gymnastic shows at Memorial Hall, and at UD basketball halftime shows. Henry was a member of the National Honor Society, Class Vice-President, President of the Varsity “S” and the White-Allen Scholar Athlete of the Year in 1966. He also received an award from the Dayton Police Dept. for “Outstanding Citizenship”.

After graduating from Stivers, Henry attended the University of Cincinnati on a scholarship where he also competed in gymnastics. Two years later he transferred to Wright State U. where he participated in the Raiders gymnastic program. There he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. After graduating from Wright State, Henry attended Bethel Seminary and earned a Masters of Divinity Degree. He then began his career as a minister which continues to this day. Henry has contributed a lifetime of service to his community. Over the years he has served as a pastor in churches in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Minnesota. He has also served community organizations such as Optimists, Kiwanis, and the American Cancer Society. He has instructed English teachers in China, taught English to adults in Spain, and gone on mission trips to Mexico, Jamaica, Guatemala, and the Dominican Republic. He is currently a hospice chaplain in family life care.

Henry and his wife, Patti, have been married for46 years. They are the proud parents of three daughters and eleven grandchildren
