Mike was a first team All-City Baseball pitcher for Stivers his senior year. Despite his size of 5’7” and 135 pounds, he was still one of the best pitchers in the City League in 1972. Mike threw a no hitter and a one hitter in consecutive starts. He also threw a two hitter and a three hitter his senior year.
He struck out 12 batters in one game. That is quite a feat considering there are only 21 outs in a high school game. He was a very good hitter and played second and third base when he wasn’t pitching. He was also the Stivers hand ball champion. He defeated Stivers Hall of Famer Roger Akemon to win the championship.
Mike has continued to be active in men’s softball and is still playing senior softball at the major level. Mike has had quite a career playing softball. His teams have been World Champs, National Champs, Metro Champs and State Champs. They have won the City Championships 21 times. He also played on #1 ranked mixed couples Class “C” team in the World USSSA Softball Tournament. He is a member of the Dayton Softball Hall of Fame.
Mike is the owner of M. E. Denny Construction and Commercial Restoration. He is also the founder of the Dayton Legends Community Action Committee which helps people in need. In his spare time he enjoys softball, snow skiing, jet skiing and riding his motorcycle.
Mike and his wife Barbara have three children, Ryan, Ericka and Kyle.
