Denny Young will join his brother Rusty in the Stivers Hall of Fame. He was, like his brother, a three sport star for Stivers in football, basketball, and baseball. An article from the Dayton Daily News, dated June13, 1922, states: Denny Young and Sam Herman, elected by the unanimous choice of the athletes at Stivers for the positions of
captain of the basketball and baseball teams respectively, are about the best choices that the East End lads could have made.
“Denny, the newly appointed leader of next year’s basketball forces, is a three-letter man and one of the best all-around athletes that Stivers has everdeveloped.
He was field general of Stivers’ football warriors, playing the quarterback position. Denny had considerable experience leading the teamon the floor as he was the acting captain…. Young held the second sacklocation during the baseball season just finished, and went through all the games without a slip up in the field. With the ash he made a creditable showing, hitting the ball hard and frequently.”
After his days at Stivers, an article in the Dayton Daily News states: Three former Stivers football stars, Ches. Smith, Young and Frank Sillon, helped Western Maryland University win a 101 to 0 game over Frederick, MD. The outstanding features of the game were the long runs of Sillon and two passes from Young to Smith, both of which resulted in touchdowns.
Denny went on to attend Denison University, Unfortunately, he was injured in a car accident while going to register for classes. Denny went on to coach at Kiser High School in 1930.
