Clarence “Dip” Shuey was a 1925 graduate of Stivers High School. He was a star fullback on the Stivers 1924 team that beat Knoxville, TN, for the National Championship Football Team.
He returned an intercepted pass 98 yards against Hamilton High School for a touchdown that assured a victory in that contest. It still remains as one of the longest interception returns in local high school history. He also was a star outfielder on Stivers baseball team.
Clarence played college football, baseball and was a member of the boxing team at the University of Dayton. He was a star tackle and was considered by the Dayton Daily News to be as good a tackle as there was in Ohio (Oct. 1928). His baseball coach stated that outfielder “Dip” hit the ball harder than anyone else on the team.
Clarence boxed professionally while he was still in high school as well as boxing for the University of Dayton. After college he coached football and boxing at Chaminade High School. He even had a small
acting role in the movie “Fighting Youth” that featured Jim Thorpe.
