Carl “Rube” Woxman was a unanimous first team All-City tackle for Stivers High School from 1927-1929. He was named the captain of the football team when he was sixteen years old. He was the youngest player to captain a team in any sport at that time. He was named to the All-Scholastic Eleven by the news in 1926 and 1927. He also ran track at Stivers before devoting all his time to football.
After high school Carl played football his freshman year at Illinois University. He then transferred to Denison University where he played football, baseball and ran track.
In the Dayton-Denison football game UD”s coach Harry Baujan told his players at halftime to “get that tackle (Woxman), block him out of there. Put three on him if necessary.”
Carl finished up his college career in football at The Ohio State University.
Carl coached the Dayton Bomber Football Team as well as the Dayton Professional Football Team in the American League in 1939. The league was known as the American Professional Football league
(APFL). It was a prelude to what is today the NFL. In 1942 Carl was appointed lieutenant in the United States Naval Reserve. He was assigned to active duty as an aviator aide in the Bureau of Aeronautics.
Carl was the president of Beta Kappa Fraternity at Denison University. He was married to Dorothy Woxman. They had one son, Carl Woxman, Jr. Carl was vice president and manager of Citizen Budget Company. He died in 1988 at the age of 75.
