Ron Jones – Class of 1972

Ron Jones was born in 1954, the second of three children to Robert and Anna Mae Jones. He entered Stivers High School in the fall of 1969 from Huffman Elementary. At Stivers he played football for 2 years, basketball for 2 years, baseball for 3 years and ran track for one year.

Baseball was his best sport. His batting average was over .400 in his senior year, he batted lead-off and played centerfield. In 1971 he was named to the All-City Honorable Mention Football Team as a cornerback.

In 1972 he was named tothe All-City Second Team in baseball. He was on the Student Council, a member of Ten Tigers and a member of the National Honor Society.

After high school, Ron attended Sinclair Community College and in 1975 joined the U.S. Air Force. He served at Chanute AFB in Illinois and Langley AFB in Virginia. He served as an air crew life support specialist and taught survival training. Within the 1st Tactical Fighter Wing, Ron was named Airman of the Year and earned the Tactical Air Command Academic Achievement Award. In the evenings he attended St. Leo University and graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1979.

In 1980 Ron was hired by the Department of Defense and was stationed withthe U.S. Air Force at Wright Patterson AFB. He worked in many program offices as systems analyst, systems engineer, information engineer, software configuration manager and segment director. He completed his career in 2011after 36 years of federal service as Chief of Modernization Branch for the Air Force Material Command.

Today, Ron is active in his church, is an avid golfer and works on his bonsai trees. He married his wife of 48 years, Debbie MacNabb Jones (Stivers Class of 1973) in 1974. They have 3 sons, Zach, Gabe and Luke who have given them 5 spoiled grandchildren.
