At Stivers, Glenn lettered in football his junior and senior years and was selected for first team All-City both years. In 1958, he was selected as a first team defensive lineman by both the Dayton Daily News and the Journal Herald (unanimous selection). In 1959, he was selected as a first team lineman by the Journal Herald and Special Mention in the Dayton Daily News. In a game against Kiser his junior year, as Stivers clung to an 8-0 lead in the 4th quarter, Kiser had driven to the Stivers 6 yard line. Glenn caused a Kiser fumble and recovered the ball to protect the Stivers win. He was a coach’s dream defensive lineman. To Glenn, every play was an opportunity to dominate the opposition. He gave his all no matter what the situation – even in practice (teammates sometimes complained to coaches because they thought Glenn was too aggressive during workouts). That explains why, even when Stivers was struggling in football, Glenn’s performance could not be ignored by the All-City selection officials.
After graduating from Stivers in 1960 he married his high school sweetheart, JoAnn Cox. They have been married for 52 years. They have 3 children, 2 sons (Tony and Terry) and 1 daughter (Ruthan). They have 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
In 1960 Glenn went to work at NCR. In 1962, Glenn and JoAnn moved to Westminister, CA where he was a carpenter. They came back to Dayton in 1964 and he became a journeyman carpenter, and later a millwright. He worked for McCalls Printing as a machinist/millwright until he was injured at work. In 1976 he began college and graduated in 1980 with a double degree in business management and accounting. He went to work at Wright Patterson AFB for the next 25 years and retired in 2009 at the age of 66. Glenn and JoAnn still live in the Dayton area.
