When “Dutch” arrived at Stivers he was an established “star” from Lincoln grade school. His performance as a freshman basketball player lead to his being named to the All-City team in 1937. He earned 9 letters, 3 in each sport at Stivers; football, basketball & track. In 1940, Dutch received 12 votes (unanimous) for running back for the All-City team. He ran 4 or 5 kick off returns for touchdowns. In 1939 the Stivers/Steele competition came to an end, Stivers won 13-0. Al Rosensweet, the reporter who covered the game for the Dayton Daily News said – “Carl (Dutch) Davis made the difference between victory and defeat for the Orange.” In his junior and senior years he placed 2nd in the City in both the 100 and 220 yard dash event. Dutch attended the University of Dayton, Miami University & graduated from Wisconsin University. He retired from National City Bank as a Vice President. Dutch died this year at the age of 81.
