Ralph distinguished himself as an outstanding all-around athlete at Stivers. Earning a varsity letter in basketball for three years, Ralph led the team in rebounding and was second in scoring during his senior season. In one of his best games he scored twenty points and grabbed twenty two rebounds. He was named to the All-City First Team his senior season.
Ralph also lettered three years in track and field. He ran high and low hurdles, and excelled in the high and long jumps. He placed first in the high jump at the City and District meets and tied for first place honors in the State meet. He won first place in all the City meets and placed second at the State meet in the long jump event.
Ralph lettered two years in football, playing offensive end where he caught several touchdown passes.
Not only was Ralph an outstanding area athlete, but he also distinguished himself off the field. He received the B’nai Brith Citizenship Award his senior year.
Ralph took his athletic prowess to Miami University where he lettered in basketball and track and field for three years. He was a starter on the basketball team as a junior and senior and led the Redskins in rebounding his senior year. As a trackman. Ralph ran the first leg of the 880 relay; set the school record with a 6’7″ high jump (tied for first place in the Mid-American Conference); and placed first or second in the broad jump at all meets.
Ralph graduated from Miami University in 1963 and married his wife, Janet. They will celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary on November 9. Ralph and Janet have one daughter, Tess, and a granddaughter, Janay.
