Gene Seman 1948

Gene earned nine letters at Stivers. He earned four in track, two in basketball, two in football and one in baseball. A teammate and close friend of Chuck Grigsby on the 1947 City Championship team, he was team captain of the 1947 and 1948 basketball squad. His senior year he was named to the All-City basketball and football teams and placed third in the City and District in the 440 dash.

After high school, he enlisted in the Navy and served as a “Seaman” 1st Class. After discharge, he worked at D.E.S.C. for 36 years. He is an active member of the Kettering Kiwanis Club and a volunteer with the City of Kettering. Seldom can one attend any Stivers related event and fail to see him. Gene has been the chosen leader of the “Alumni Luncheons” at MCL since their beginnings and worked diligently with the committees on his own Class of 1948 reunions.

Gene and his wife, Shirley, reside in Kettering. They have one son, Larry, who is employed at the Pentagon in Washington, DC. Gene also has 2 stepdaughters, Joyce and Carolyn and 1 adopted son, Jeffrey. Shirley and Gene have been blessed with 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
