Paul Ginter was one of Stivers most outstanding basketball players. He came to Stivers High School in the fall of 1955 after having been coached at Huffman Elementary by Joe Sullivan. Paul started on the varsity as a freshman during a time when Stivers players were fortunate to earn a letter as a sophomore. He continued as a “starter” four years, earning All-City honors for three years and All-State honors as a senior. Paul led his Stivers Tigers team in scoring for three years and remained the all-time city scoring leader for several years after graduation, in spite of having missed several games in his senior year with a leg injury.
Ginter remained the all-time Stivers scoring leader until 1972 and now ranks third behind Sanders and Mitchell.
Paul was heavily recruited and accepted a scholarship offer from the University of Louisville. He declined the offer at the last moment, going to work for General Motors where he retired after 30 plus years as a foreman.
The Mt. Sterling, Kentucky native was one of the best basketball players to play for the Tigers. Sadly, Paul passed away this past summer. Today, he is represented by his daughter, Kelly, and his grandson, Michael who will accept his award.
