Benjamin Hinton was an outstanding basketball player for the Stivers Tigers. After playing basketball for Dunbar High School he decided to transfer to Stivers School For The Arts his Senior year. The 6’1” guard was sensational in leading the Dayton City League in scoring with a 25.5 points / game average. This was 6 points higher than the next leading scorer. He was also the fourth leading scorer in the greater Dayton area with a 27.1 points per game average.
While having high scoring games of 36 and 33 points against Meadowdale, 32 points versus Colonel White, and 30 against Cincinnati Hughes, Benjamin saved his best for Belmont High. On that Friday night, he set a career high by scoring 47 points. Normally a driver, he was also hot from the 3 point line. He hit his first 5 shots and ended up 8 for 10 from long range. That night along with 30 points the following night earned him Dayton Daily News “Player of The Week “ honors.
Hinton was named to the All-City 1st Team and was the Division111 District 15 “ Player of The Year”. He was also named to the All-Southwestern Ohio Honorable Mention squad.
After graduating from Stivers , Benjamin attended Miami University in Middletown for one year before entering the workforce . He assisted his father coaching at Patterson- Kennedy Elementary for three seasons and continued playing basketball in Cincinnati leagues.
Benjamin is currently living in Trotwood, Ohio.
