“Big” Bill Hosket, so named because he was just shy of 6’5″ tall. In his Sophomore year at Stivers, he was called the greatest center ever seen in action on a high school basketball court by the three tournament officials who placed him on the All-Star Class A team. He was famous for his “bat-in” shots. He was All-State Center in 1928 and the Team won State Champions in 1928, 1929 and 1930. Bill, playing in the era of the center jump, was an excellent passer and could shoot with either hand.
After graduation Bill moved on to Ohio State University. He became an All Big Ten center leading the Buckeyes to the conference championship in 1933.
When his playing days ended Bill stayed involved. He officiated on both the high school and college level. Bill died in 1956 at the age of 45.
