Bob was a four year letterman on Stivers High School baseball team. He was also a two year letterman on the Stivers basketball team. Bob was selected as a pitcher on the Dayton All-City Baseball Team.
He had a record of 3-0 in the city league and 5-1 overall his senior year. Bob threw a no hitter in a 3-0 win over Dunbar that year. He also threw several other low hit games in his career at Stivers during the city league and the summer leagues. Bob was one of the leading hitters on the team.
He played on the same team as Mike Denny and Gary Forrest who are also being inducted into Stivers’ Hall of Fame this year.
Bob’s biggest moment at Stivers may have been when he made a 10 foot jumper against Springboro High School in overtime to propel Stivers to its first basketball tournament win in twelve years. Bob was also named Stivers Prom King his senior year.
After high school Bob attended and received his B.S. degree in education from Eastern Kentucky University. He worked at the Dayton Boys’ Club and taught physical education and coached for a few years in the Dayton City Schools before a trampoline injury forced him to leave his teaching position.
He and his wife Sherri were married in 1979. They moved to Orlando, Florida in 1987. They love living in Florida but Bob is still an Ohio sports fan. He loves the Buckeyes, the Browns and the Reds. He has worked for Brown and Brown Insurance for the last 20 years and plans on retiring by the end of the year.
