Bob began his athletic career at Stivers on the freshman football and basketball teams. As a sophomore he played varsity baseball and was a starting forward on the reserve basketball team. His junior and senior years he was a starting varsity player as a forward in basketball and first baseman/outfielder in baseball. He also ran cross country as a senior. Bob was Stivers most outstanding basketball player during his senior year. He was the only unanimous selection to the 1950 All-City team; was twice selected “Star-of-the-Week”; was the second leading scorer in the city, and was voted “Dayton’s best-all-around basketball player” in a press and radio poll.
Knowledgeable observers will tell you that he was Dayton’s and Stivers’ best player during his high school years.
As a result of his outstanding ability, Bob attended the University of Dayton on a basketball scholarship, but later withdrew and enlisted in the Navy.
Upon discharge, Bob returned to Dayton, married and worked in local industry and sales until his retirement in 1996.
Bob and his wife of 52 years, Barbara, have three children and live in the area.
