Charles Grigsby 1947

Chuck attended Stivers his freshman, sophomore and junior years but became so disappointed at sitting on the bench that he dropped out for a full year to help support his mother and 7 siblings. When his brother returned from the military he urged Chuck to return to Stivers. At 6’5″ Chuck played only one year of varsity basketball at Stivers, but he was named All-City that senior year and led the school to its first undisputed city championship in eight years.

Chuck’s years at the University of Dayton are legendary. UD’s second leading scorer as a sophomore. He scored a career high 40 points against Southern Mississippi in 1952.

Chuck married his high school sweetheart Charlene in 1952 and they had 1 daughter, Nancy. They divorced but remained friends. He died in July of 2003 of leukemia, just shy of his 75th birthday.
