Jake was a small man in stature at 5’5″ and 128 lbs.. However, he loomed large on the basketball court and the baseball field. He was a member of the basketball team that won 22 straight games and 72 out of 75 in a three year span for Stivers. In 1919, with only 4 players on the floor due to fouls, Jake, a sophomore. scored the last 4 points for a 25-22 victory and the State Title. Jake was the leading scorer in 1920 & 1921 at the State Tournaments giving the Stivers team three straight State Championships. Jake was All-Ohio in 1920 & 1921. He graduated from Ohio State University where he excelled in both basketball and baseball. After graduation he was signed by the Boston Red Sox but a back and arm injury cut his career short. Jake worked for a successful insurance agency, married his wife, Freda, and had 2 children, Joyce and Marty, 5 grandchildren and 9 great grand-children.
Jake died in 1987 at the age of 84 years.
