JaShawn Combs – Class of 2011

Recipient – Brother – Brandon Huntley JaShawn Combs had an outstanding track career for the new era of Stivers School for the Arts. He began his athletic career at Stivers in the seventh grade, showed extreme promise and went on to have one of the best track careers in school history.

In his freshman season, he finished as District Champion and qualified for the Regional Meet in the 110 meter high hurdles. He finished third in Region, which qualified him for the State Meet in Columbus.

At State, he finished ninth. In his sophomore season, he helped lead the boys track team to the district championship. His personal honors that year included District Championships in both the 110 and 300 meter high hurdles. At the Regional Meet, JaShawn finished second in the 110 meter high hurdles (which is what qualified him for the State competition) and seventh in the 300 meter high hurdles.

In the State Meet that year, he finished seventh in the 110 meter high hurdles. JaShawn’s junior year was hampered by injuries, causing him to miss the entire season. In his final season at Stivers, JaShawn came back strong, finishing second in the 110 meter and third in the 300 meter high hurdles in the District. He then finished second in the 110 meter high hurdles, qualifying him for the State.

He was unable to compete at the State Meet due to an injury incurred during the race. JaShawn finished his Stivers track career as a four year letterman with AllState Honors, in his sophomore and senior years. After graduating from Stivers he received an athletic scholarship to Miami University.

As a freshman, he was the Mid-American Conference champion in the 110 meter high hurdles. JaShawn graduated from Miami University with a B.A. in Anthropology. After graduation he enrolled in Graduate School at Northern Arizona University. With one year of eligibility remaining, JaShawn joined the NAU track team and helped them win the indoor and outdoor Big Sky Conference Championship.

JaShawn recently accepted a job in California and could not be with us today.
