Jerry Woodbury was an outstanding athlete for the Tigers during the mid-1970s. He played 4 years of varsity baseball, 3 years of varsity football and had All-City honors in both. He also wrestled his sophomore year.
Jerry’s best sport was baseball. He played shortstop all 4 years. After hitting .460, stealing 17 bases and playing stellar defense his senior season, he was named to the All-City First Team.
Of the 1974 class, Jerry was the only four year varsity letterman. His most memorable game was against Yellow Springs. He was walked three times and scored three runs. With the score tied at 6, he hit a grand slam home run to give Stivers a 10 to 6 victory. Jerry was given the game ball which he still has in his possession today.
Woodbury also excelled on the grid iron. At different times he played quarterback, halfback and safety for the Tigers. He earned Honorable Mention All-City Honors after both his junior and senior seasons at the safety position.
After graduation, Jerry enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corps, serving 18 months in Okinawa, Japan and 2 years in California.
Upon completion of his military duty, Jerry enrolled at Sinclair Community College and earned an Associate Degree in Civil Construction Technology. He worked in the field for 25 years, drafting civil engineering projects.
Jerry has been married to his wife Patty for 40 years. They are now retired, live in Centerville and operate a local church food pantry.
