Kenneth Terrell excelled in multiple sports even before his Stivers career started. He represented the Dayton Boys Club in the National Pocket Billiards Tourney at the age of 13, placed 3rd in his class, and was named “Young Man of the Year”. He was a starting forward on the Emerson/Stivers 7th and 8th grade basketball teams that lost only one game in two years. In 1964, Ken organized and managed a softball team representing Burns-Jackson Park that never lost a game, won the City of Dayton Championship and beat the City of Cincinnati champs.
Ken was one of Coach Landis’ most revered linemen on the best Stivers football team of the ‘60’s decade. He played both ways on the ‘65 and ’66 teams and was a four year letterman. Two very close losses to Belmont and Roth late in the ‘66 season cost the Tigers a city championship. The loss to Belmont, the Journal Herald #1 rated team in the area, was by a 6-0 score. The Tigers scored big wins over Dunbar, Monroe, Fairview, Wilbur Wright, and Meadowdale. The defense gave up a mere 9.5 points per game that ’66 season with Ken as an anchor in the middle of the line. His defensive play earned him 2nd team All-City honors.
After graduating from Stivers, Kenneth was offered a grant in aid to play football for Central State U. but was unable to accept due to high blood pressure. He then enrolled at the University of Dayton and earned his B.S. in Education.
From an early age, however, Ken wanted to have his own business. He founded and is president/owner of W.T. Products of Ohio, Inc. a multi-location convenience store company. Ken is now semi-retired, spending much of his summers fishing in Canada and his winters in Florida.
Kenneth married Charlotte Branim, and they have two children, Kevin and Erica. They are the proud grandparents of Chloe, Xander, Kendra, Kayleena, Payton, and grand step-sons, Kelton and Colby. The most recent addition to the Terrell clan is great granddaughter McKensie.
With his induction, Kenneth joins older brother Terry in the Stivers Athletic Hall of Fame.
