Robert Worst

“Pop” Worst came to Stivers as a teacher in 1918 and became the Faculty Manager of Athletics/Athletic Director in 1920. He continued in that position until his death in 1954. “Pops” vision was to develop top quality sport teams at Stivers. In order to do this, he focused on obtaining the best qualified coaches Examples of his hiring were Harry Wilhelm, Floyd Stahl, Horace English and Skip LaRue. During that certain era of sports history, Stivers football team went undefeated for 3 consecutive yrs.- 1923, ’24 & ’25 and were the National Champions in 1924 & ’25. Pop’s promotion of Stivers HS Athletics in Ohio and the nation earned him the title of “Mr. High School Sports” during Stivers golden years He was a graduate of Steele H.S., Denison U. and Whittenburgs Law School. ‘Pop” had 1 son, Robert, deceased, a daughter-in-law, Shirley and 1 granddaughter, Rebecca Dezarn.
