Terry Thompson was an outstanding athlete who moved to Stivers High School from the Beavercreek School District his senior year. While at Beavercreek, Terry earned five letters. He also played on the Ohio Class B State baseball team his freshman year.
Terry was one of three great athletes who moved into the Stivers district in 1954; senior year for all three. Terry along with twins Jim and John Lord made All-City in football and are now in the Stivers Hall of Fame.
In Terry’s senior year, Stivers football team defeated Chaminade twenty-seven to thirteen (27-13) ending a forty-nine game winning streak for Chaminade in the City League. The week prior to being defeated by Stivers, Chaminade had soundly defeated Flaget H.S. of Louisville, Kentucky State Champions, fifty -four to zero. That year, Stivers went on to an outright title for the City League Championship also known as The Big Seven. It was the first time Stivers had won the City League since 1935, the year that Stivers and Fairview shared that title.
Terry was a five-foot-eight, one-hundred and fifty-five pound linebacker who made the 1st Team All-City Defensive Team. His ruggedness and true leadership qualities earned him the respect and confidence of coach Jim Hanby and his fellow teammates which led to him being named co-captain of the football team even as a first-year move-in player.
After graduation, Terry went on to play football at Miami of Ohio for one year before serving our country in the Army for two years. He returned to school and received his B.S. degree in Education from the University of Dayton and his Masters degree from Miami University.
Terry is a retired science teacher and football and wrestling coach from the Kettering School System. He and his wife, Ruth have been married for forty years. They have 4 children and 10 grandchildren.
