Thomas Hoy was one of the best golfers to ever play for the Stivers School For The Arts. Not only was he a terrific golfer, but he was also a scholar athlete, swam for the Tiger swim team, played the trumpet in the Stivers National Champion jazz orchestra and the Muse Machine.
Thomas credits his parents, Ann Frayne and Ted Hoy, for his golf success. They were both members of the Miami Valley Golf Club and it was said that he could properly grip an iron in his crib. In both his Freshman and Sophomore seasons, Thomas was named “Athlete of The Week” by the Dayton Dailey News. In 2002 he shot a 31 (9 holes) in a win over Colonel White H.S. In 2003, he shot a 78(18 holes) to win the SWOPL tourney by 4 strokes at Pleasant Hill. In 2004 , he shot a 75 to win the MVJGA Invitational (16-17) and a 79 to win the Division 11 District tournament. Both his Junior and Senior seasons were capped off by being named the SWOPL “Player of The Year.“ He was named team MVP all 4 years at Stivers.
After graduating from Stivers with a 3.7 GPA, Thomas enrolled at the Ohio State University in their Professional Golf Management program. After two years he decided to pivot in another direction and completed his degree in economics.
Thomas is currently a Senior Manager with Verizon Wireless in Lexington, Kentucky. He and his wife, Sara , have two children, Charlotte and Theo.
