Jerry earned 6 varsity letters while at Stivers. In baseball, he was starting 2nd baseman as a freshman on the varsity team and he batted 280 for the season. Jerry moved to shortstop his sophomore and junior years, where he batted 320 as a sophomore and 335 as a junior.
Jerry was starting guard on the freshman basketball team and on the reserve basketball team his sophomore year. Jerry was starting guard for the varsity team his junior year, where he averaged 14 points for the season. He was starting guard his senior year, where in the first five games of the year, Jerry was the first player since Paul Ginter to average more than 20 points a game for Stivers. Jerry had 27 points and 12 rebounds against Dunbar and made Player of the Week and had a week end total of 53 points and 20 rebounds. Jerry averaged 23 points a game against the top 6 teams on the Stivers schedule his senior year and was rewarded at the end of the year as 3rd team All City Player.
Jerry pursued his love of sports after leaving Stivers. He played 2 years of Class A baseball and 4 years of Class A softball. Jerry played 8 years of basketball for the Falcon Club, winning 4 league titles, where he averaged around 17 points per game.
Jerry has earned two 300 perfect game rings for bowling ending with an average of 220 in 2002. He took up the game of golf at the age of 63 and at the age of 66 won the Falcon Club golf league team championship as well as being individual champion.
After graduation, Jerry was employed by DP&L, leaving after 29 years of service to start his own gas line business, which he is still operating today.
He met his wife, Judy, as a first grader. They went through the grades together and graduated in the same class from Stivers High School. They just celebrated their seventh anniversary together. Jerry’s proudest accomplishment is being a father to Michael, Donnie and Kellie and grandfather to Allison, Michael and Mia Kennard.
