John Robert “Bob” Lively – 1928

Bob Lively was one of the best all around athletes for the Tigers baseball and basketball teams in the ‘20’s and he went on to play both sports for the Ohio State Buckeyes. At Stivers, Bob was captain of the 1928 basketball team that won the State of Ohio championship, the first of three consecutive state championships. He was named to the All City First Team and All-State Second Team during that 1928 season. After graduating from Stivers, Bob went on to play baseball and basketball for Ohio State University. He was a starting forward for the Buckeyes basketball team during the1930-31 and 1931-1932 seasons.

Bob continued playing baseball after his Ohio State career, playing shortstop many years for the Dayton Diamonds amateur team. He also became an excellent bowler, bowling in Dayton area leagues for over20 years. In January of 1956 he rolled a 300 game at Belmont Lanes.

Most of Bob’s working career was as a budget administrator at Wright-Patterson AFB. Bob married Clotilda Konen, who had been a tennis player for Stivers. Cotilda had a daughter, Judith, by a previous marriage. Judith married Stivers grad, Chuck Fearing, from the Stivers Class of 1953. Chuck and Judith have three children, a son Jesse, and two daughters, Teresajo and Tracey.
