Steve A. Calondis – 1958

2014HOFcalondisA versatile athlete playing football, basketball and running track, Steve earned six letters in his junior and senior years, two in each sport. He played quarterback and defensive safety on the football team his senior year, earning honorable mention all-city. He played guard on the basketball team, and his favorite race on the track team was the 880 yard relay.

Steve was the junior class president and was on the senior council. He was a member of Ten Tigers three years, serving as president his senior year. He was selected in 1959 by the Dayton Boys Club as the Outstanding Boy Class B.

Steve was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1963. While serving overseas in Korea in 1964 (HQ Co. I Corps Special Troops), Steve played on an undefeated softball team, catching the final pop-up for the championship at Camp Red Cloud in Uijongbu, Korea.

In his adult years Steve has remained active in some form of sports. He has been playing softball on the Cuny / Zink American league for the past 15 years, coaching and playing the past 12 years. This year, 2014, he is playing on and coaching three different teams, one team with an over 63 years of age limit and two teams with an over 70 years of age. Steve has been the President of the American League for the past seven years and is still the active president.

He retired from RCA Service Company with 28 years of service and from Woodland Cemetery with 19 years of service. Steve has two children, a daughter, Christina, a son, Michael and three grandchildren; Cheyenne, Miles and Alyssa. Gardening, playing the piano, ballroom dancing and traveling take up some of his spare time,
